Our prison record collections are open to the public. All records can be viewed and copies of obtained in the Archives & Library of the Ohio History Center in Columbus, Ohio. Learn about visiting us here.

How to Request Copies of the Records if unable to visit our library in person

The admission records and photographs can be requested by submitting a fee along with a Research Request Form or an Indexed Public Records Request Form by U.S. postal mail. Requests must include all of the following:

  • Name of the inmate

  • name of the prison/institution

  • exact year of admission (or up to a ten-year period in which the inmate was admitted).

If the exact year is known, use the Indexed Public Records Request Form. If time of admission can be narrowed to a period of ten or fewer years, use the Research Request Form.
